My Advice to You {Day 8} Blog Everyday in May

Go away to college, live on campus and have that experience
I wish I had taken this advice. When I was a senior in high school, I had big plans of moving out of the house and going away to school. When the time came to leave, I got scared and decided to go to school local and commute. I wish my parents told me to buck up and go (I think deep down they liked me being around). Most of my friend and everyone on my husbands side of the family have fun stories to tell from college and I have none. I drove to school, went to class, did my time and went home – not that exciting.
Respect your parents, teachers and adults in your life
Mr. & Mrs. so and so are always a given (unless they tell you to call them by their first name). Growing up I was always respectful of teachers and felt they deserved the same respect I gave my parents. Don’t be nasty.
Dress appropriately & Know that there is a time and place for everything
When you want someone to take you seriously, dress like you care. Don’t dress sloppy or inappopriately. I’m not saying I don’t curse or sometimes have a sailors mouth, but know your audience. I’ve been to parties (professional and recreational) and nothing is more of a turn off when language used isn’t being thought about. It can get tacky.
Dream big and set mini goals
I can speak to this first hand. A year after having my youngest I was still very much unhappy with my body and weight. I knew something had to be done and I knew what my goal was. I knew if I wanted to achieve this, setting mini goals (pounds lost) would be best to measure – and it worked! (will post more on that later).
Thank you notes are always a must
You don’t have to have fancy stationery (even though it’s a favorite thing for me to collect), but when someone does something nice for you, a handwritten thank you note (not a phone call or email) is the best way to show them you care and appreciate their thoughtfullness.
Follow your dreams & take risks
You may not always have the opportunity to take a risk…do it when you can.
Have fun, enjoy life & be safe
I sound like a ton of fun, right??? I think it’s important to have fun and make the most of everything that life brings to you. Just remember to be safe when doing these things – people love you!
